Chen Qiheng is a research-driven visual artist based in Guangzhou, China. His practice spans moving image, writing, and sculpture, and explores how identity, intimacy, and cultural values are formed and transformed within specific social and historical contexts. He often begins with personal experience, everyday life, and relationships between people and between humans and plants, establishing connections across moving image, writing, publications, and material practices.

Since 2020, the orchid has continued to serve as a way of thinking and making within Chen Qiheng’s practice. The orchid is both a plant and a means of entering questions of the body, family, cultural traditions, and social relations. In his ongoing research project Becoming Orchid, he approaches the orchid through its botanical characteristics, cultural symbolism, and relationship to the body, exploring queer identity, ecological relations, and the intimate yet unstable connections between humans and the natural world. Meanwhile, his long-term project Orchid Pavilion (蘭亭無序) begins with personal life and everyday encounters, engaging with intimacy, kinship, desire, friendship, and human connection through publications, moving image, and other forms that continually record and organize these experiences.

In recent years, his practice has gradually extended toward migration, language, family memory, and cross-regional cultural experiences, while continuing to consider how individual identities are shaped, negotiated, and re-understood across different social and historical contexts.
