Touch uses “touching orchids” as its central video theme, filmed at the Orchid Conservation Center in Shenzhen and VIP Orchid Garden in Singapore. The work explores the relationship between humans and nature through two modes of “touch,” reflecting on the emotional and active dimensions often overlooked in ecological discourse. The black-and-white imagery symbolizes the stasis of orchid life within contexts of conservation and display, while occasional bursts of color glitches signify sudden moments of vitality. The immersive video installation heightens the audience’s experience of “encountering” the work, turning viewing into participation. Situated between ecology, emotion, and media, the piece remains open-ended, inviting viewers to reconsider the boundaries of protection, observation, and touch, as well as the multiple possibilities of coexistence between orchids and humans.
