Orchi(D)ad is a 25-minute essay film that examines the orchid as a complex cultural and symbolic figure through which notions of “father” and “patriarchy” are metaphorically interrogated. By revisiting ten cinematic works that employ the orchid as a recurring motif, the film retraces how this plant has been entangled with discourses of sexuality and desire, mythology and colonial imagination, as well as collective history and individual memory.
Adopting a narrative mode that oscillates between documentary and fiction, the work operates as a mimetic gesture, continuously translating and reconfiguring meanings through acts of imitation. In this process, the orchid becomes both an image and a critical apparatus through which the figure of the father is refracted, dismantled, and reassembled. The film thus proposes an inquiry into the politics of representation, linking botanical symbolism to structures of memory, power, and subjectivity.
